Our two campuses in Methuen and Haverhill have a total of 320 beds, and we are a full-service, acute care hospital offering comprehensive inpatient medical/surgical units, outpatient care, and 24/7 emergency services. We have three behavioral health units: cardiac telemetry, and critical care service lines. Our Haverhill campus offers all private rooms, and our Methuen campus offers a new state-of-the-art catheterization suite and Joint Center of Excellence, named as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction+ Center for Knee and Hip Replacement.


Position Summary:


The Senior Data Analyst shares responsibility for the oversight of data analytics for the Quality & Patient Safety (QPS) department using technical expertise in programming and scripting languages, database systems, reporting programs and dashboards. The candidate should have experience with data display, data analysis and ensuring data integrity within data applications and reports. Projects in the department portfolio include use and analysis of internal and external quality data sources.


Responsibilities:


  • Writes, develops and maintains SQL queries from the Meditech Expanse Data Repository (MS SQL Server) that support reporting to internal customers and external agencies.
    • External Examples: Mortality upload for New England Donor Services (NEDS) and stroke upload for the American Heart Association – Get With The Guidelines (GWTG).
    • Internal Examples: Readmissions reports, Nursing key clinical indicator (KCI) reports, Blood Transfusions and Narcotics Use reports.
  • Ensures data accuracy and data integrity of queries, reports and dashboards. Identifies and communicates data issues while recommending potential solutions and working with the QPS and other colleagues to determine/implement best possible resolution.
  •  Converts final production queries for automation of report delivery using SAP Crystal Reports and Business Objects. Creates and maintains Meditech BCA datasets and dossiers developed from queries for end user analysis where appropriate. Also creates ad-hoc queries as needed.
  • Prepares reports, dashboards and meeting materials for presentations and committees using Microsoft Excel, Meditech Business & Clinical Analytics (BCA), etc.
  • Supports teams, committees and individuals with data/report analysis questions and requests.
  • Assists with development of new reports and dashboards and maintains existing reports, including Meditech BCA dossiers and datasets.
  • Maintains internal Access Database of all report fields utilized to quickly identify reports affected by Meditech changes. Creates and maintains supporting documentation and/or instructions for each report as backup to automation process.
  • Works with Information Systems to resolve system-wide issues related to generation of Quality and Patient safety reports.

Qualifications: 


  • Education: BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent required

Related Experience:


Required:


  • Minimum 5 years related experience as a data analyst analyzing, developing and maintaining SQL queries/reports.
  • Technical expertise and experience creating and maintaining SQL queries/reports from relational databases such as MS SQL Server, Oracle or equivalent.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, primarily Excel and Access
  • Able to interpret and translate complex requirements, standards and specifications from CMS and other agencies and develop related reports for management and other users.
  • Proven skills in performing quality assurance to ensure data integrity.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to produce reports under minimal supervision using agreed upon tools and technologies in the timeframes specified by departments and agencies.
  • Able to meet deadlines with service-oriented approach that can accurately set priorities to meet needs.
  • Strong analytical skills to address and resolve complex problems.
  • Able to work collaboratively with clinical and IT resources.

Preferred:


  • Three years of experience in a health care environment
  • Understanding of medical terminology and workflows
  • Direct experience working on Quality related projects with proven outcomes.
  • SAP Crystal Reports and Business Objects experience
  • Meditech BCA experience or experience with similar related dashboard software
  • Familiarity working with Electronic Medical Record systems such as Meditech, Epic, etc.
