The Epic Systems Analyst provides high level, specialized application/system expertise and leadership in the analysis, design, deployment, and support of critical Epic functions within the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Individuals work closely with department colleagues, system vendors, and other stakeholders to define user requirements and provide integrated solutions based upon UNLV Medicine standards. The Epic Systems Analyst has a demonstrated knowledge of clinical and/or revenue cycle operations. The Epic Systems Analyst provides expertise to improve Epic processes and support critical Epic strategies, while seeking out opportunities to educate the strategic use of Revenue Cycle, Scheduling/Registration and/or Ambulatory Applications.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs, configures, supports and maintains Epic within the Professional Billing, Claims and Remittance, Reimbursement Contracts, Cadence, Prelude, Ambulatory and/or HIM applications.
- Understands relationships between system processes/programs, system parameters, files and data relationships for assigned Epic applications.
- Possess technical knowledge of most phases of system analysis, but also considers the business implications of the application to the current business environment.
- Works with more complex sets of issues requiring an advanced skill base with Epic application design.
- Identify and analyze needs for build application modifications based on user needs, including custom user forms and workflow engineering.
- Participate in project planning, development and implementation.
- Communicate project status and issues.
- Quality control of assigned Epic applications implementation prior to release as well as ongoing maintenance and support as required by application life cycle.
- Ensure continuity of the business processes supported by the EHR.
- Perform in-depth analysis of workflows data collection, report details, system audits and other technical issues associated with Epic software.
- Build design, research and positive/negative testing for complex build projects.
- Collaborates with other application support teams to ensure seamless integration and provide additional coverage.
- Consults and advises users, management, vendors, and others concerning the purpose, features, functions and proper uses of new and existing applications, modules, and systems.
- Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving within the Epic applications.
- Analyze new functionality in releases.
- Participate in system upgrades, build and testing.
- Supports end users during upgrades and project go-lives.
- Develops custom revenue cycle reports.
- Support and maintain interfaces between clearinghouse, credit card, statement and collections vendors.
- Support and maintain interfaces between Viewpoint and other clinical systems.
- Develops and maintains an ongoing awareness of initiatives, emerging technologies, and relevant laws and regulations. Provides ongoing and competent support for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Maintains regular contact and ensures communication, collaboration, and teamwork between end users, department managers, and other service providers/partners.
- Owns, designs, and implements process improvements.
- Escalates work issues to Epic Systems Manager as needed.
- Presents to group trainings as well as leads meetings.
- Ability to respond to changing demands, priorities, procedures and technology.
- Functions effectively in a Matrix Management environment.
- Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Epic Systems Analyst, Applications Specialist, or equivalent Epic experience in a Professional Billing environment
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
- Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, and/or related field preferred with a minimum of one (1) year of experience Revenue Cycle Support, Patient Access Support, and/or Clinical Support
- To be considered for the position, current certification in either: Resolute Professional Billing, Epic Care Ambulatory, Prelude or Cadence preferred.
- Epic Certification:
- Epic Resolute Professional Billing Certification or Proficiency required or obtained within 3 months of hire date -OR-
- Epic Claims and Remittance Certification or Proficiency required or obtained within 3 months of hire date – OR –
- Epic Reimbursement Contracts Certification or Proficiency required or obtained within 3 months of hire date – OR –
- Epic Cadence/Prelude Certification or Proficiency required or obtained within 3 months of hire date– OR –
- Epic Care Ambulatory Certification or Proficiency required or obtained within 3 months of hire date.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive working knowledge of revenue cycle and operations
- Extensive working knowledge of patient scheduling, registration and clinical workflows
- Strong understanding of upstream and downstream data sources to establish root causes of errors
- Ability to work within critical deadlines during peak activity periods
- Good working knowledge and previous experience with Epic Resolute, Epic systems, collaborative computing tools, information management in healthcare, general information architectures, systems integration, laws, and regulations
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, while collaborating within and across applications
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, etc)
