The primary responsibilities for this role are the implementation, training, maintenance, support, and optimization of Harbin Clinic’s electronic health record (EHR) applications and other clinical software applications. The Clinical Applications Analyst 1 provides outstanding customer service and contributes to the organization's mission of utilizing health information technology to improve patient care.






Under direction of the Application Services Director and with guidance from senior analysts, the Clinical Applications Analyst 1 utilizes basic knowledge of clinical requirements, application capabilities, and his/her technical skills to maintain and support EHR/EMR and other applications. The Clinical Applications Analyst 1 will be responsible for clinical template development (e.g. HPI, ROS, A&P, etc.), workflow design, configuration changes, upgrades, modifications, and security of EHR/EMR and other applications. The analyst will also participate in go-live support, new release support, and on-going user support and education. He/she should be able to work on multiple projects / issues concurrently.  He/she should be adept working with a variety of users including physicians, administration, managers, clinical, and office staff.






The Clinical Applications Analyst 1’s responsibilities may focus on one or more of 3 key Application Services functions:  Training, Workflow Development, and Applications Support.






Essential Job Functions


Job functions may include but will not be limited to the following.


• Performs Electronic Health Record (EHR) application analysis, requirements and design activities.  The Clinical Applications Analyst 1 role focuses on clinical applications but may provide assistance with non-clinical applications as needed.


• Analyze and resolve issues encountered by the end-users during any implementation/new release and coordinate remediation with vendor or other staff.


• Participates in the evaluation, testing and implementation of future releases. Participate in post implementation change evaluation and supports users in maintaining changed processes.


• Participates in change control process.


• Acts as liaison between application vendors, management, and application end-users.


• Works with entire Information Technology Services department to ensure application support issues are resolved and other day to day break fix items are completed..


• Answers tier 1 & tier 2 phone calls, emails, and other inquiries.


• Receives and performs work order tickets from Harbin Service Desk staff, project manager, and/or supervisor.  Ensures all issues are reported, tracked, and completed within a ticket/work order based application.


• Proactively reads, creates, maintains, and follows application documentation to deliver consistent services & solutions.


• Provides end-user workflow support, workflow Q&A, workflow auditing, and new application feature support.


• Assists with upgrades to the electronic health record (EHR) application as well as other clinical and non-clinical software applications.


• Performs scheduled and ad hoc application audits to monitor compliance with HIPAA and Harbin Clinic policies.


• Provides reports from assigned application(s) and assists users with report needs.


• Exhibits effective problem solving techniques and looks for opportunities to contribute application & workflow improvements.


• Maintains and monitors assigned applications(s) and related integrations or interfaces, as directed.


• Trains or assists in training new and current users.


• Assists in preparation of training materials and support materials, as needed.


• Maintains a working relationship with the assigned application(s) user group(s) at Harbin Clinic and with application(s) vendors.


• Identifies and recommends for evaluation/implementation application enhancements or integration with other applications.


• Maintains strict confidentiality, safeguards protected health information (PHI), and reports disclosures appropriately.


• May participate as a technical subject matter expert for LEAN projects with guidance from senior analysts or supervisor.


• May require some direction from vendors and supervisor to resolve routine applications issues.


• May be cross trained to perform job functions as staffing needs dictate.  Provides coverage for other team members, when necessary.


• May lead Super Users within each department by holding regular training sessions to streamline processes and train on more advanced features of the applications.


• Performs other duties as assigned.
